Hide my email

Here's a nifty little tool to hide your email address from spammers.

How "Hide my email" works

Spammers use special computer programs, called "robots", to find email addresses on people's websites and add them to lists of people to spam.

To work out what's an email address, most robots look for the tell-tale symbols like "@" and ".com".

That sucks...

Yep! But, there's good news. It's possible to hide or "mask" your email address, using special codes, called (in case you're wondering) "HTML Entities".

These are little bits of HTML code (the stuff websites are made out of) which stand for other characters. Here are some examples:

You don't need to understand all the technical jiggery-pokery, all you need to know is that by converting your email to these "HTML entity" codes, you can hide your email address from 95%–99% of spammers.

This technique isn't 100% foolproof, and it won't help if the spammers have already got your email, but it'll mean your email is hidden and gets picked up by far fewer spammers in future.
